Technology experiences for children and young people
We want to give the next generation an insight into how technology creates value and how they can help shape the solutions of the future. That's why we put extra focus on activities for children and youth throughout the festival week.
Through workshops, business visit, Competitions and exhibitions get children and young people experience technology in a practical and fun way. The goal is to arouse the curiosity, inspire learning and show what opportunities exist within technology, science and innovation.
Here is insight into some of the activities happening this week 42:
Girls & Technology
Girls and technology is a national project where the purpose is to increase the proportion of women in technology. Here it focuses on voice-related (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) educational directions, as well as technical vocational subjects such as electrical- and computer technology, barley- and facility, technology- and industrial subjects. The arrangement is for girls in 9. and 10th grade. The main partners are NHO and NITO.
Girl Tech Fest
Girl Tech Fest is a different school day with technological workshops and lots of fun. The goal is for more girls to be interested in technology and gain knowledge of how they can help develop value -adding technology in the future. Takes place at Horten Library and is for girls in 5th grade. There is USN that stands for the workshops this day, and Veronica Danielsen (VitenVero) comes to inspire with its amazing show.
Rocket launch
Each year students at the research line at Horten High School get to participate in a unique project: to build their own rocket. This is a collaboration between Horten municipality, Horten vgs and Frode Stensaa, and provides young people practical experience with science in practice.
Students are divided into groups and each building their own rocket with the goal of sending them 18 kilos of heavy constructions the whole 700 meters to the weather. The shooting takes place at Jarlsberg Airport later in the year.
Astronaut competition
In addition, an astronaut competition for school starters in Horten Municipality's kindergartens is held. Kids get their own astronauties exhibited at Horten Library. Astronauts with the most votes get to join the rockets on the shooting day, and the kids who have made they get to be honorary guests at Jarlsberg Airport.
Hort Tech Expo
Each year, students from secondary school and high school in Vestfold are invited to attend our fair, Hort Tech Expo. Here the youths can meet role models, ask questions and be inspired to future education- and career choice. In addition, it will be energy -filled shows with Inspira, and career history with one from business. For what are conscious choices and what are the coincidences of the road? This was a huge success in 2024, where the students listened with the enthusiasm to Terje Simonsen and what choices he has made on the road.
